Brief History of Rhiconich Beagles

Rhiconich is a small local authority licenced breeding/showing kennel located close to the birthplace of Princess Margaret and the Angus Glens.

1994 - after the loss of our Cocker Spaniel, Cindy, we vowed we would never have another dog! Little did we know.

After only a few months, realising she had left a big gap in our lives, we decided that perhaps yes we might have another dog. We discussed the possibilities and both agreed a Beagle was the ideal dog for us - in fact we would get 2!

Some research - a telephone call - and we had found a Breeder whose bitch was due to whelp shortly. We made the journey to Ayr to meet Eleanor & Frank Bothwell who agreed we could have a puppy bitch Norcis Star Turn (Misty). Eleanor also was able to put us in touch with Colin & Denise Ashmore from Lincolnshire from whom we purchased Buttermere Truelass (Jodi) a month later.

My first venture into the show ring was at the Scottish Kennel Clubs August 1995 Show, it still had CC status for Beagles at that time. Misty won her class - Minor Puppy Bitch - she had qualified for CRUFTS at her and my first outing!! I was hooked.

I had great fun showing Misty and Jodi with several good placings at Champion and Open show level.

Now I thought I needed a Dog to show. Returning to Norcis Kennels, Norcis Beinn Odhar at Rhiconich (Robee). Robee had a very good career in the show ring, I travelled the length and breadth of the country - I still do - Robee gained his Junior Warrant and Stud Book Number. Unfortunately due to ill health, I lost Robee at the age of 8.

Tannahill Victory - my next purchase. Vicky was shown from 1998 to 2000. Mated to Norcis Spindoctor at first producing the perfect litter - 4 dogs, 4 bitches. Her next litter in 2002 when she was mated to Norcis Sine Die - 9 pups, 7 bitches, 2 dogs. This mating produced Rhiconich Blaeberry.

Norcis Cob came to live and was a very successful show dog for me going on to win Dog C.C. at Darlington 2002.

Rhiconich Nooshin a Misty granddaughter did very well in the show ring.

Rhiconich Blaeberry (Patsy) proved to be a very successful bitch for me, obtaining 2 Res CCs, 1 Darlington, the other at Midland Counties both in 2003, many Best of Breeds at Open Shows and Group Placings.

Cob was used at Stud a few times the most important for me was the mating to the then Tannahill Jakamara., Mara produced 3 pups all bitches. I was lucky enough to be offered the pick of the litter, Suzi Que, mated to Norcis Sine Die produced 6 pups, 3 dogs, 3 bitches. Horus, Cleopatra (Cleo) and Hatshepsut (Hattie) were kept.

West Mercia Beagle Club Champion Show 2005 Cleo was Best Bitch Puppy. LKA 2005 Horus BPD and Cleo BPB - Cleo Best Puppy in Breed.

Norcis Modern Millie (Mojo) was my next challenge. A beautiful Tan & White bitch. Mojo was best puppy bitch at Welsh Beagle Club Champion Show.

Hattie mated in 2007 to Am Ch Wilkeep Cos Hocus Pocus at Fallowfield produced Rhiconich Sherbet who has won several firsts at CC level and RCC at Richmond Sept 2008

Cleo continued her show career until the end of 2007 when she was mated to Am Ch Wilkeep Cos Hocus Pocus at Fallowfield producing 7 pups, 5 dogs and 2 bitches. Chico and Cait were kept for the show ring. On their first outing to Leeds Chico was BPD in Breed and Cait winning BMPB.

Heather was from a mating of Patsy to Tannahill Leuka and mated to Ch Fallowfield Bartholomew we now have Glenda who will hopefully join the show team later this year.

Bonnie a Suzi Que and Ch Tannahill Leuka offspring was mated to Am Ch Wilkeep Cos Hocus Pocus at Fallowfield and I have kept Frida who will also be joining the show team.

1999 I was offered and accepted my first judging appointment and am currently on Breed Club A3 and B judging lists.

I have served on Dundee Canine Club, Angus & Kincardine and Scottish Beagle Club committees

I am now currently serving on the Scottish Beagle Club committee.
